Bibracte takes part in the 20th anniversary conference of the Faro Convention

The Faro Convention was opened for signature on 27 October 2005 in Faro, Portugal.
To mark this milestone, the Council of Europe and the City of Villeurbanne in France organised a conference from 9 to 11 October 2025 with sessions addressing:
• Cultural heritage, tensions and reconciliation
• Gender equality and heritage narratives
• Cultural heritage and ecological issues

Representatives of the European Faro Convention Network (EFCN) contributed their insights, alongside local authorities who officially endorsed the principles of the Faro Convention during the event.

The conference fostered participatory exchanges between local authorities, civil society and cultural actors. Bibracte, attending as the SECreTOUR pilot site, contributed its experience in mobilising heritage communities and co-creating sustainable cultural tourism practices during the “Cultural heritage and ecological issues” session.
