A guided tour of the route of the Alcázar irrigation channel in Jérez del Marquesado, Granada

On 26 October 2024, part of the MEMOLab UGR team led a guided tour of the route of the Alcázar irrigation channel (SL 389) in Jérez del Marquesado, Granada (for more information: https://regadiohistorico.es/rutas/jerez). During this route, visitors were able to learn first-hand about traditional water management in the municipality through one of the main irrigation channels: the Alcázar irrigation channel. They learned about the values of the historical irrigation channels, the biodiversity they generate along their path, as well as other heritage and environmental elements through which this irrigation channel runs: catchment points, ponds, secondary irrigation channels, centenary chestnut trees associated with the channels, as well as the medieval Andalusian settlement associated with these irrigation systems.
