In 2024, Bibracte and the partners of the Grand Site de France of Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets involved in the SECreTour programme responded to a call for project led by the French National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT) to participate to a territorial engineering support mission aiming at structuring and developing tourism on the territory. At the end of 2024, the ANCT confirmed the launch of a 12 months mission aiming at structuring and developing tourism around the Tour du Morvan des Sommets hiking route project, the region's new flagship hiking route developed as part of pilot project A landscape in Common.
An agreement formalizing this commitment has been signed by the ANCT, the Nièvre Prefecture, Bibracte EPCC, the Morvan Regional Natural Park, and the Villages Assembly of the Grand Site de France. To coordinate the project, a steering committee has been established, bringing together these partners. The first meeting of the steering committee was held at Bibracte on 5th February. This mission will play a crucial role in advancing the pilot project led by Bibracte and its partners. It will involve the active engagement of local socio-economic stakeholders participating in the initiative. The mission will include a territorial assessment focused on analyzing and enhancing existing walking routes while identifying needs and gaps in tourist services.
At the end of the mission, concrete recommendations will be proposed to develop a range of services tailored to the needs of itinerant and tourist customers. These recommendations will focus on diversifying the economic stakeholders involved, reducing seasonality in activities, integrating cultural and tourist offerings, improving mobility and bringing the offer to market. Over the next few months, the engineering agency will test the Tour du Morvan des Sommets revised route and organize a collective intelligence workshop with the local players involved in the pilot project.
This mission comes at the perfect time, as just a week earlier, the French Hiking Federation approved the Tour du Morvan des Sommets as a hiking trail of national level.
