Pottery Workshop in Salar: First Activity of the Salar Heritage Community
MEMOLab UGR, in collaboration with the Salar City Council and artisan José Carlos Toro (https://toroceramica.com/), organized the first activity of the Salar Heritage Community as part of European Craft Days (https://www.diasdelaartesania.es/actividad/encuentro-ceramico-con-la-comunidad-patrimonial-de-salar). This gathering was conceived as a space to share, learn, and begin to collectively develop new initiatives centered on local heritage.
The event included two participatory workshops: creating Roman oil lamps, inspired by ancient techniques and introduction to pottery using a homemade potter’s wheel, as a first practical approach to ceramic work. This was a free activity with limited spots, designed as a meeting point for residents, where they could begin to shape the Salar Heritage Community.
A gathering within a broader project
This workshop was part of a larger initiative: the creation of the Salar Heritage Community, an open space for participation centered on the town’s heritage. The activity was not just a one-off event, but the start of a collective process to come together, exchange knowledge, and generate new ideas that contribute to the cultural, social, and economic development of Salar.
