Upper Vjosa Valley Experience Presented at the Erasmus+ Funded Summer School of the University of Tirana
On June 16, 2026, Ardit Miti from CeRPHAAL delivered a lecture as part of the Summer School days organized by the University of Tirana, Faculty of History and Philology, under the Jean Monnet Module “Bridging Identities: Aligning Cultural Policies for EU Integration – A Case Study of Albania”, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
The lecture explored European heritage policies and the role of cultural heritage, landscape, and community participation in sustainable development, drawing on experiences from the Upper Vjosa Valley within the framework of the SECreTOUR project. It introduced students to three key Council of Europe conventions: the Valletta Convention, the European Landscape Convention, and the Faro Convention, highlighting their relevance for heritage management, landscape protection, and community engagement. By presenting concrete example from the research conducted in the Upper Vjosa Valley, particularly concerning the heritage of Vlach minority, the lecture brought attention to the role of local communities in safeguarding cultural landscapes and shaping future development initiatives.
The event provided an opportunity to discuss the links between European heritage policies and local practice, while encouraging students to reflect on the importance of participatory approaches for the future management of cultural and natural heritage in Albania.
