As part of the SECreTour project, we’ll spotlight successful initiatives and practical models that demonstrate how sustainable tourism and location-independent work can breathe new life into underutilised regions.
Across Europe, rural areas face challenges such as depopulation, economic decline, and fading cultural identity. Yet, these same places offer what many digital nomads seek: authenticity, nature, and meaningful connection. When supported by thoughtful infrastructure, community engagement, and strategic vision, rural destinations can transform into vibrant hubs of creativity, productivity, and cultural exchange.
This good practice exchange will feature:

- Andreea Rusu, sharing lessons from over 15 European coliving spaces on how intentional community design can help rural towns attract and retain digital nomads sustainably.
- Anna Maria Kochanska, presenting key findings from the Horizon Europe R-MAP project and offering strategic insights into how remote work can empower local communities and reshape tourism policy.
